東京、秋葉原駅近傍で計画した、防音室を備えた集合住宅である。

　防音室は、遮音性能を高めるため、開口部が制限され、閉じた内部空間となることが一般的だ。この集合住宅では、防音室が主な居住空間となるワンルーム形式のプランが主体のため、明るく開放的な内部空間で音楽活動が行える新たな防音室のケーススタディを試みた。

　各防音室には、クレーンでグランドピアノが搬入出可能かつ、避難経路として機能する大きな開口部と、内部から移り変わる周辺の街並みを臨める小さな開口部を設置した。大きな開口部は、天井に接する位置に設けることで、光をより多く取り込み、空を眺めながらの演奏も可能だ。小さな開口部は、住戸ごとに特徴的な場所に設けつつ、機能的に通風を容易に行えるようにしている。このような開口部配置の自由な立面を実現し、居住空間を最大限確保するため、柱型・梁型が内部に突出しない耐震壁付ラーメン構造（柱が壁面同厚・梁が床面同厚）を採用した。

　敷地は、伝統的な瓦屋根でできた低層の日本家屋と、近代的な高層の事務所ビルや集合住宅がパッチワークのように混在するエリアに位置する100㎡にも満たない狭小地だ。雑然とした下町の街並みが、均質なコンクリート造の建物に置き換わりつつあるこの場所で、その中間に位置するような存在として、成長する街の多様性をそのまま形に落とし込んだ建築を考えた。

　角地での周辺に対する圧迫感を軽減するため、建物のコーナーを削り取った多角形状の平面とし、コーナー以外の外壁上部は斜めにカットすることで、モノリシックな塑像的形態を作った。これは、天空率を適用した法律上の高さ制限の中で、最大限の室内空間を確保するための設計でもある。その外壁面に、彫りの深いランダムな開口部を穿ち、住戸の境界が曖昧な抽象的ファサードとすることで、均質化する街並みに抗う楔=wedgeのような建築とした。

　狭小な敷地を有効活用しながら、地域の景観に寄与する防音マンションの新しい形を目指した。

Soundproof rooms are essential for YouTubers as well as music students and other people involved in music. However, most people imagine such rooms as dimly lit, closed-off spaces. 

We sought to create a prototype for another kind of soundproof room, in which musical activities can take place in a bright, expansive interior space with a view of the sky outside. 

This project was a request to design a soundproof apartment building made up of soundproof rooms on a site near Akihabara Station in Tokyo. 

These are studio apartments with a floorspace of less than 50 square meters, located in a high-density area in the city center. 

For residents, grand pianos and other musical instruments are a part of daily life. Since pianos have to be hauled in through the window using a crane, and since instruments are played in the rooms, 

we felt it was necessary to design the structure to minimize as much as possible the presence of columns inside the rooms. Thus, we adopted a thin-walled rigid-frame structure, 

which also allows for the free expression of the windows of each apartment. 

The building has a polygonal floorplan, with four of the exterior walls facing a road or alley. For this reason, the windows are not placed uniformly, but rather arranged differently for each unit. 

Our focus was on the view of the city from each unit. In this way, we aimed to achieve a distinctive façade that would allow the building to grow along with the growth of the city and to create a soundproof apartment building that would help enhance the neighborhood landscape.
