事務所ビル最上階のワンフロア1世帯の住戸で床面積が150m2あるが、既存建物は築37年を経ていて、住戸内は廊下により平面が左右に分断され各室が薄暗い間取りとなっていた。 

施主は日常的にゲストを住まいに迎え共に過ごす社交的なライフスタイルの方で、今回の改修を機に施主の生活にフィットした住まいづくりを行うことになった。 

室内に重くのし掛かるような既存梁の問題を解決しながら、アーチ状天井と引戸で各室を形成することで、シームレスに各室がつながる開放的な住空間を計画した。 

各室の引戸をあけることにより、暗くなりがちな内廊下を明るくできるようにした。 

また、川沿いに面したバルコニーから安定した自然光、十分な自然風をリビングルームに取り入れるため、開口部にフルオープンタイプの折れ戸を設置し、壁内に引込み可能な内窓を制作することで、空調負荷の低減に配慮した。 

野球観戦と入浴が趣味の施主の要望により、がラス張りの浴室をLDKに隣接させ設けることで、浴室からの野球観戦や、LDKにいる人とのコミュニケーションができるように考えた。 

竣工引渡し後、施主の要望により住まいで使用する家具のコーディネートなどを通して住空間の向上に継続的に努めている。 

審査講評： 

空間を視覚的に区切ってしまう既存梁をアーチ状天井として取り込み、造形的に魅力的な空間として蘇らせた。

壁面収納とバルコニーの窓そしてガラス張りの浴室は、建具の工夫で日常の快適性とゲストを迎え入れる開放的な非日常を同時に可能にした好例。

"A Residence with Arched Ceilings "

Occupying the top floor of an office building, this apartment has a floorspace of 150 square meters and houses one family. 

The existing building was 37 years old, however, and the apartment floorplan was divided into left and right halves by a hallway, which caused each room to be dim. 

The client is a sociable person who regularly invites guests into his home to socialize. 

So, carrying out this renovation was a chance to create a home that would better suit the client’s lifestyle. 

While addressing the issue of the existing beams weighing heavily on the interior, 

we designed an expansive living space in which the various rooms were seamlessly connected by forming each room with an arched ceiling and sliding doors. 

The interior hallway, which tends to be dim, can be made bright by opening the sliding doors of various rooms. 

Also, to allow steady natural sunlight and plenty of natural breezes into the living room from the balcony, 

which overlooks a river, we installed fully-opening folding doors at the entrance to the balcony 

and created an interior window that can be retracted into the wall, thus reducing the load on air conditioning. 

At the request of the client, whose hobbies include watching baseball and taking long baths,

 we placed a tiled bathroom adjacent to the living, dining, and kitchen area so that he could to watch baseball from the bathroom and communicate with people in that area.
